Hot Water System FAQ:

I have two radiators in the house, one is working and the other is not. I bled both and it improved the one that is working but the other it had no effect. After the system was on for awhile I went in to the basement and I found that the pipe going from the furnace to the second radiator cooled down about half way down the pipe, it never even reaches the radiator. If fact, it’s short by about 10 feet. The pipes that lead to and from the radiator to the furnace are both hot.

What can I do to fix the second radiator?

Why would turning the heat on make the shower cold and turning it off make warm water flow again?

Hot Water System FAQ:

In our apartment with a gas water heater with tank, turning on the heat to warm the apartment makes the flow of hot water from anywhere (ie shower, sink) start flowing cold immediately. As soon as the apartment heater is turned off the water flow warm again. This is tried and always true the last two winters but doesn’t seem to make sense. I’m wondering how they might be related. Don’t know much about our furnace or heating system, it’s not in the apartment.
